Long Beach State will play two matches at LMU, two at UCLA this weekend.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After an unbeaten start to the season, No. 11 Long Beach State Beach Volleyball will play four matches at the Battle For LA, facing four local teams at two sites Friday and Saturday.
Competition for Long Beach State will begin on Friday, February 27. The day starts against -Concordia (3-0) at Noon, and then the Beach will face No. 8 Loyola Marymount (1-4) for the first time in 2026 at 2 p.m.
Moving to Westwood on Saturday, Long Beach State will take on their hosts, No. 2 UCLA (3-2) at 10 a.m. before a rematch with Pepperdine (1-3) at Noon.
Seniors Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah enter the week with 97 wins, and with three victories over Long Beach State's four dual matches will reach new heights for the program with 100 career wins, all coming at Long Beach State. The pair won each of their first two matches of the season against No. 19 Washington and Pepperdine, though the Waves' top pair took the duo to a third set.
Sophomores Tineke Hinton and reigning Big West Freshman of the Year Demi Wagdy debuted in the second flight and also had an excellent weekend, winning both of their matches in straight sets to help pace Long Beach State to the two wins.
Both of the hosts, LMU and UCLA, took part in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic last weekend hosted by Hawai'i. UCLA, top-ranked in the preseason, took two losses, once against the hosts and one against Stanford to drop out of the top spot, though the Bruins were 4-1 winners against the Lions, who despite starting the year 1-4 remain in the Top 10. CUI defeated a Big West opponent, CSUN, in their first match of the year and then took wins over Cal State Los Angeles and Vanguard as the Golden Eagles remain a dangerous program as well.
All four matches for Long Beach State are scheduled to have live scoring which will be available at beachlivestats.statbroadcast.com.
