Hagenah, Gementera Selected For AVCA National Player Of The Year Watchlist

The senior pair enter the 2026 season as Long Beach State’s career leaders in wins.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Taylor Hagenah and Malia Gementera were 2 of 16 players selected for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Year watchlist as the 2026 Beach Volleyball season gets underway this week.
Presented by the AVCA for the first time in 2026, the watch list recognizes 16 players for fans to get excited about watching for the season.
Gementera and Hagenah are coming off a strong fall, where the pair won the AVCA Pairs Championship in Huntsville, Alabama. Two-time All-Americans, Hagenah and Gementera have 95 combined wins over the last three seasons at Long Beach State, and have big goals for the upcoming season both individually and as a team which get underway this week.
Among those goals that is quickly within reach is becoming the first players in program history to reach 100 career wins.
Long Beach State will play two matches on Saturday to get the season started, facing Washington and hosts Pepperdine from Zuma Beach, Calif.
