El Mokbel scored her second game-winning goal of the year for Long Beach State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Natelle El Mokbel was chosen as the Big West Freshman of the Week as Long Beach State remained unbeaten at home during the team's current homestand at George Allen Field.
With the Beach playing shorthanded after an early red card against New Mexico State, El Mokbel opened the second half by taking a corner short and ripping an incredible shot in the top corner of the goal to give Long Beach State a 2-1 lead over New Mexico State, and then played a major role in controlling the second half on the way to the win.
Earlier in the week against San Diego, El Mokbel also played over 70 minutes in a start against the Toreros, putting up four shots and forcing USD keeper Ilise Medrano into three saves as the Beach played to a 1-1 draw.
El Mokbel is Long Beach State's first weekly award winner from the Big West this season. The Beach will open conference play Thursday night with a rematch against Hawai'i at George Allen Field.
