Long Beach State Athletics Hall of Famer Rick Bryson Dead At 81

A devoted supporter of athletics in Long Beach, including Long Beach State, the two-sport athlete was inducted into the LBSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – President and Founder of Bryson Financial Group and two-sport athlete at Long Beach State Rick Bryson died Saturday after an extended battle with cancer.
Bryson was a tremendous athlete, excelling in two sports at Long Beach State, competing in both football and baseball during the early days of each program. Bryson hit .350 with the 1964 baseball team on the way to winning the first conference championship with a team that also would be inducted into the Long Beach State Athletics Hall of Fame. He was also a defensive back and punt returner for a nine-win team during the 1965 football season where he was an All-American. Bryson was inducted into the Long Beach State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997.
Born in Long Beach and attending Long Beach Poly before going to Long Beach State, his support of his local community was unwavering, serving as past president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach and the Pacific Hospital Foundation, board member of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Foundation, and a member of other nonprofit boards.
Additionally, Bryson and his family have continued to support Long Beach State through his business success. Bryson Financial adorned both the old and new scoreboards at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field, and their philanthropic support has positively impacted thousands of Long Beach State student-athletes over the last 50 years.
