Eight Named All-Big West For Softball

Jacquelyn Bickar, Makayla Medellin were both named to the second team.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Softball had their depth recognized as eight players were named All-Big West as the conference announced the All-Big West teams on Tuesday.
 
The Beach finished the regular season tied for second place, and had eight total honorees. Senior Jacquelyn Bickar and junior Makayla Medellin were both Second-Team All-Big West, both named All-Big West for the third time in their careers.
 
Now with over 200 games played in her Long Beach State career, Jacquelyn Bickar ranks fourth in career stolen bases at LBSU with 37 and seventh in runs scored with 119, and is now fifth on the team with a .303 batting average while starting every game and walking a team-high 28 times on the year withs seven stolen bases.
 
Makayla Medellin had a tremendous Big West campaign. Starting in all 27 games, Medellin hit .357 with 10 walks in Big West play, slugging .621 with nine doubles, a triple and four home runs. Medellin was fifth in the Big West in slugging and sixth in the league with 23 RBI in conference play.
 
Long Beach State had six players named Honorable Mention. Kate Barnett went 5-1 in Big West play, striking out 18 batters over 37.2 innings pitched, while freshman Brynne Nally has posted a 3.22 ERA with 49 strikeouts and 74.0 innings pitched, second-most on the team.
 
Corissa Sweet is having the best season of her career at Long Beach State, second on the team with a .327 batting average while leading the team with 10 stolen bases, earning All-Big West for the first time. Rebekah Durazo was honorable mention for the second straight season. The senior had an incredible start to the season, and still leads Long Beach State in all three slash categories, hitting .388 with eight doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.
 
Transfer Brooklyn Lee was All-Big West for the second time after earning the honor last season at UCSD. An honorable mention, Lee is third on the team with a .313 batting average and has 28 RBI, second on the team behind Medellin. Finally, freshman Priscilla Iniguez was honored after starting 20 games in Big West play, hitting .267 on the seasons and sharing Long Beach State's home run lead at four with Medellin while driving in 22 RBI on the year. Both Iniguez and Nally were added to the All-Freshman team as well.
 
Long Beach State has clinched a spot in the inaugural Big West Championship as the postseason begins, and will face Hawai'i to start the double-elimination tournament at 1 p.m. on Wednesday from Cal State Fullerton.
