Moni Nikolov Claims Final Big West Freshman of The Week Award

The freshman setter led Long Beach State to a .457 attack percentage after dishing out 12.17 assists per set

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State freshman setter Moni Nikolov was named Big West Freshman of the Week for the final time this season. It marks his seventh such award this season and 10th overall conference weekly honor in 2025.

Nikolov led the Beach to a pair of sweeps over No. 10 UC San Diego to lead Long Beach State to its third-consecutive Big West Regular Season Title. He paced the team to a .457 attack percentage, while averaging 12.17 assists per set. Nikolov contributed on all sides of the ball as he added 1.33 kills and 1.00 digs per set, while serving up four aces.

The product out of Sofia, Bulgaria turned in a solid showing at UCSD on Friday night as he led the way with 38 assists as the Beach hit .444. In that match, Nikolov also added a pair of kills, two digs, and one ace.

In the Beach's final home match of the season, Nikolov piloted Long Beach State to a .468 hitting percentage as he distributed 35 assists. Additionally, he contributed six kills on a .364 clip, while also tallying four digs, three aces, and two blocks.

The 6-foot-10 Nikolov has recorded 86 aces this year to average a nation-leading 0.92 per set.
