Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah Win Back-to-Back Big West Pair Of The Week

The first flight pair was recognized after a 6-0 weekend at the Big West Challenge.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - After an undefeated weekend at the Big West Challenge, juniors Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah were named the Big West Pair Of The Week for back-to-back weeks. Â
This is their third pair of the week title this season, the most for any Long Beach State duo in a single season. The honor comes after the pair was named the AVCA/CBVB National Pair Of The Week.Â
Gementera and Hagenah took care of business as the duo only dropped one set through six games. Their straight set win over CSUN to start the weekend was the 75th win for the duo. They took down the first flight pair from No. 6 Cal Poly in straight sets, maintaining control of both sets. They also had a swift win over the first flight pair from No. 17 Hawaii. Â
They currently sit at 80 wins, as they solidify their legacy with the most pairs wins in program history. The duo also holds the record for most pairs wins in a single season with 34 wins during the 2023 campaign. Â
Gementera and Hagenah have been the first flight pair for the Beach since their freshman season, where they led Long Beach State to their first Big West title in program history. Together, they have taken down 25 ranked opponents and were both named First Team All-Americans last season.Â
