Women’s Basketball Falls On The Road To UC Davis, 71-57

Savannah Tucker led the offense with 26 points while Rachel Loobie tied a career-high of 15 rebounds.

DAVIS, Calif. - Savannah Tucker delivered another 20-point performance for Long Beach State, but UC Davis led from the first whistle and never looked back, defeating the Beach 71-57.
 
UC Davis started the game shooting 47% from the field to open a 10-point lead over the Beach after 10 minutes. An early 7-2 lead earned the Aggies control of the game in the first period. Jada Crawshaw added two more on the board for the Beach, but UCD kept finding answers to extend their lead.
 
A Lovely Sonnier fast-break basket cut the advantage to 13-8, but the Aggies closed the first period with a 5-0 run to lead 18-8. Rachel Loobie added six rebounds in the opening portion of the frame, but the Beach struggled with their shooting, going 3-for-19 from the field.
 
The Aggies continued their hot shooting in the second to extend their lead early. Tucker added her first three of the game to cut into the lead, but UC Davis responded with a 7-0 spurt to go up 27-11. The Beach responded with seven straight after Tucker's second three of the quarter.
 
UC Davis hit back-to-back threes to extend their lead 33-18. Loobie answered back for the Beach with two jump shots as the Beach trailed 33-23. After three minutes of no scoring for either team, Tucker converted two from the line. UC Davis closed the half, shooting 50% from the field and from three to take a 38-25 halftime lead.
 
Patricia Chung opened the second half with a three-pointer for the Beach. UC Davis answered with back-to-back baskets to lead 44-32 at the media timeout. The Aggies held the Beach scoreless from the field for over five minutes to stay on the lead. After collecting another rebound, Loobie converted two from the line to cut the lead as the Beach trailed 44-36 after 30 minutes.
 
The fourth period started with the Aggies extending their lead with back-to-back layups. Both teams traded points as Davis didn't allow the Beach to return in the game. Tucker made another three-pointer to chip away at the lead, but the Aggies answered back with a three-pointer of their own. Loobie got three more for the Beach with 1:26 left as UCD led 63-52. UCD controlled the rest of the game to defeat the Beach, 71-57.
 
UC Davis (14-8, 8-4 Big West) outscored the Beach from the paint, 30-1,6 while also outrebounding LBSU, 46-35. From the field, the Beach shot 26% (19-of-72), while the Aggies shot 45% (22-of-49). At the free throw line, UCD made 20-of-21 attempts (95%) while the Beach were 13-of-18 (72%).
 
Tucker led the Beach with 26 points. Loobie collected 15 rebounds to tie a career-high and added nine points. Nya Epps shot 8-of-10 from the field to lead the Aggies with 24 points, while Tova Sabel and Victoria Baker added 15 points each on the night.
 
The Beach (11-10, 7-5 Big West) stays on the road when LBSU travels to CSUN (4-16, 2-9 Big West) on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
