Men’s Golf Wins Lake Las Vegas Invitational With Record Score Of -34 Under Par

Individually, Charlie Forster and Alejandro de Castro Piera finished first and second.

HENDERSON, Nev. – Charlie Forster and Alejandro de Castro Piera finished first and second overall, leading a record-breaking effort over three days as Long Beach State came away with all honors at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational. All six golfers sent by the Beach finished the tournament under par.

Long Beach State dominated the 15-team field, winning the tournament by 25 strokes over Northern Illinois in a record-breaking effort the Beach. As a team, Long Beach State was 34-under par, besting the 30-under set during Murray's tenure as the Beach at the 2022 Nick Watney Invitational at the Par 71 Kings River Golf and Country Club.
 
Long Beach State's 551 through the first two rounds at the Par 72 Reflection Bay Golf Club was the second-best score in program history, and was followed by another strong round Tuesday. With a 9-under par 279, the Beach finished the tournament with a score of 830 which was the lowest ever for LBSU on a Par 72 course.
 
Senior Charlie Forster led wire-to-wire, claiming the 34th individual win in program history and the first of his career at the Beach. Forster birdied 18 to finish his round with a one-under par 71, winning the tournament at 13-under.
 
His main competition was junior Alejandro de Castro Piera, who tied for second among the 92 competing golfers. De Castro Piera finished with his best round of the tournament, a four-under 68 to share second place at 9-under with Simon Engman of Stetson.
 
Long Beach State's depth was clear on the way to the win in addition to the one-two finish for the Beach. Krishnav Chopraa eagled 12 for the second straight day on the way to a 3-under par 69, climbing to 21st overall as the second-lowest score for LBSU on Wednesday. Jack Cantlay finished in 23rd after a one-under 71, and Clay Seeber finished his best tournament of the season so far with a 72, sharing 6th place overall as the only player on the Beach not under par on the final day.
 
The Beach had three in the Top 5, as senior Steen Zeman, playing as an individual finished off his third straight day under par with a 70, alone in fifth place overall at 7-under for the tournament.
 
The Lake Las Vegas Invitational championship marked the 32nd team tournament win in program history and Forster's win was the 34th in program history. Each victory was the fifth under current head coach Rob Murray.
 
Long Beach State will get a two-week break and return to action at the Wildcat Intercollegiate hosted by Arizona on March 17 and 18.
