Women’s Volleyball Rolls to Straight-Set Win Against UC Riverside

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State senior Rhiann Sheffie delivered one of the top performances of her career Thursday night, finishing with a team-high six blocks and 11 kills on .611 hitting as the Beach (18–8) swept UC Riverside (7–18) 3–0 at the Walter Pyramid.
Long Beach State controlled the match at the net with 10 team blocks, led by Sheffie's six. Logan King and Elise Agi added 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while Madi Maxwell handed out 32 assists and Izzy Mahaffey totaled a season-high 15 digs to anchor the defense.
"We talk a lot about playing 'Long Beach volleyball,' and that includes doing the small things, the controllables, the communication, the overpasses, and we did a great job with that," head coach Natalie Reagan said.
The Beach took early command in the opening set with a five-point run, including an ace from Sidney Hamaker, pulling away for a 25–14 win behind efficient side-out play. Long Beach State posted its strongest offensive frame in the third set, rolling to a 25–9 victory, their largest margin in any set this season.
"We talk about throwing the first punch and closing the door, and I thought we did that really well," Reagan said. "Even in that second set there were some points we wanted back, and it is easy to get complacent. Making sure we stayed on the pedal and maintained the standard was important."
Milani Lee's service ace completed the sweep in the third set as the Beach held UC Riverside to just 13 points.
Long Beach State continues its homestand Friday, November 14, when the Beach hosts UC Davis at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
