FULLERTON, Calif. – After shutting down Cal State Fullerton for seven minutes in the last quarter, No. 10 Long Beach State opened their Big West slate on the road with a dominant 20-9 win over the Titans.

Long Beach State (10-5, 1-0 Big West) got on the board right away with Gabi Acosta and Oliver Sudar scoring two goals to open a 2-0 lead with just over a minute of play. Cal State Fullerton (15-9, 0-1 Big West) took the lead with three straight goals with over four minutes left in the first. The Beach answered back with their own 3-0 run behind goals from Acosta, Jason O'Donnell, and Artur Diaz to lead 5-3 with 1:25 left. A late goal by the Titans closed the first period with the Beach leading by one, 5-4.

Juniors Marc Frigola and Caleb Francisco scored quickly to open a 7-4 lead for the Beach early in the second. The Titans answered back, but back-to-back goals by freshman Zalan Nagy gave the Beach momentum and forced a time-out for CSUF, as LBSU led 9-5 with under six minutes left. A penalty shot goal by Fullerton trimmed the lead, but a hat trick in the period by Nagy kept the four-goal advantage for the Beach, 10-6. Both teams traded goals as Frigola added his second of the day with under two minutes left in the first half. Sandro Pueyo added to the scoresheet on an extra man play, and Acosta scored his third of the day to open a 13-7 lead for Long Beach State after the second quarter.

The Titans cut the lead to open the second half with a penalty shot goal, but the Beach answered back with goals by Francisco and Pueyo, leading 15-8 with 5:30 left in the quarter. Corbin Stanley scored his first of the day to complete a 3-0 run for LBSU. Fullerton cut the Beach leadto eight, trailing 16-8 with eight minutes left.

The last quarter saw the Beach score three straight goals to shut down the Titans for seven minutes of play. Sophomores Konstantinos Kapragkos, Keegan Moore, Michael Soybel, and Harper Stewart all added in the last quarter as Long Beach State secured their first conference win, dominating Cal State Fullerton 20-9.

The Beach will now travel to Northern California to face No. 13 Santa Clara (7-6, 1-0 WCC) on Saturday at Noon on ESPN+ with live stats available through TheFOSH.net.
