
Men’s Water Polo Continues Homestand Against No. 13 UCSB Saturday Night for Conference Play

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 11 Long Beach State looks for its third conference win of the season as they face No. 13 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the LBCC Aquatics Complex.
Undefeated in Big West play, Long Beach State (12-8, 2-0 Big West) started the week with a thrilling game against No. 5 Fordham, losing in sudden death, 16-15. Junior Caleb Francisco tied for the most goals scored in a single game with a new career high of eight. Francisco had an outstanding night of shooting and added two field blocks. The junior attacker now has 44 goals on the year, five short of his sophomore-season total. Goalkeeper William Whitstone recorded a season-high 14 saves and added two steals.
The match against the Gauchos will feature Big West leading scorers Gabi Acosta from the Beach and Danilo Dragovic from UCSB going head-to-head, as both lead the league with 55 goals. Acosta and Dragovic have been key players for their teams in their sophomore seasons, elevating the level of competition in the Big West Conference.
UC Santa Barbara (15-11, 1-1 Big West) had two important games to open conference play. The Gauchos started league play with a key win over No. 10 UC San Diego, 11-10, but dropped a 10-9 match against No. 16 UC Irvine, with both games at home. Along with Dragovic, senior goalkeeper Levi Lentin has had a standout season, ranking second in the league in saves with 159 and third in the conference with 24 steals.
