Defender Natalie Arnold scored the first two goals of her career in a 3-0 win on the road.
Long Beach State (4-4-2, 1-0-1 Big West) immediately went to work, trying to push in front of UC Riverside (0-11-1, 0-4-0 Big West) on the road as the team got back in action for the first time since September 18.
Working to the endline, Kailey Supa gave the Beach their first strong chance with a cross right in front of the goal mouth, but the Highlanders were able to clear to keep the game scoreless. An early spate of yellow cards was awarded to the Highlanders as UCR tried to slow down the Beach attack, but Long Beach State worked down the right side to build an early lead.
Kana Uchida slotted a ball to Radisson Banks, who put in a beautiful cross to find Supa, who put away a left-footed finish to give Long Beach State the lead in the 18th minute. Just minutes later, Banks was involved again, combining with Ameera White before another strong entry found Natalie Arnold. The sophomore scored her first career goal to put the Beach on top 2-0.
Looking to come back, a physical challenge from Paige Gartner led to a second yellow and a red card, giving Long Beach State a man advantage as well as the lead for the last 70 minutes of the contest.
Early in the second half, Long Beach State went hunting to close out the game. A well-placed effort from Julie Lopez from distance was saved by Trinity Hale, and then on the ensuing corner, Makena Irvine sent a header off of the crossbar. Earning another corner, White picked up her second assist of the game, finding Arnold who put away the header and helped put away the Highlanders with a 3-0 lead.
Up on the scoreboard and with a man advantage, Long Beach State easily managed the rest of the game to close out the win on the road, picking up three key Big West points in the second league game of the season for the Beach.
Long Beach State will have a key matchup at home on Sunday as the Black and Blue Rivalry returns to George Allen Field, as the team looks to extend their unbeaten streak starting at 6 p.m. Live coverage of the game will be on ESPN+.
