The Beach Collect A 3-1 Win Over Wichita State At The Nebraska Classic

Three players scored in double figures, while three logged double digit digs in the victory

LINCOLN, Neb. – Senior Natalie Glenn recorded a double-double to help lift Long Beach State to a 3-1 [25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 25-15] victory over Wichita State on Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Classic.

The Beach has now won their fourth-straight contest as they improve to 4-2 on the year. Wichita State, meanwhile, drops to 3-5 overall.

Glenn recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs to lead a trio of double-figure scorers as well as three players who reached double digits in digs. The senior outside hitter did an excellent job hitting .382 in the match, while adding three aces, two assists, and one block assist.

Coming in behind Glenn offensively were Ella Lomigora (11 kills) and Abby Karich (10 kills). Lomigora knocked down her 11 kills on a .625 attack percentage, while adding three blocks and a pair of digs, while Karich contributed seven digs, one block, and one assist.

Senior setter Zayna Meyer led her team to a .206 clip. She contributed on all sides of the ball logging 36 assists, seven digs, four kills, three blocks, and one ace in another all around and efficient performance.

On the defensive end, Glenn led squad with 13 digs, while Savana Chacon and Jenna Giambi followed suit with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

As a team, Long Beach put up 10.0 total blocks as the Beach were led by senior middle blocker Kameron Bacon's six-block showing.

The first set was an evenly matched contest as both teams finished with 15 kills. The Shockers took a 7-5 lead after scoring three-straight, but the Beach would go on a 4-0 run to jump out in front 13-11. The two teams continued trading leads as each went on short 3-0 runs. The Beach got back-to-back kills from Glenn to kick off a 4-0 run that would put the set away, 25-19.

Wichita State took a quick 6-4 lead over the Beach. However, Long Beach stayed within striking distance. After falling behind, 15-12, LBSU used a timeout to regroup. Despite the break, the Shockers continued to surge ahead, claiming the second set 25-18.

With the match tied at 1-1, the third set saw the two teams fight each other through nine ties and four lead changes. The battle continued until Long Beach State scored four-consecutive points to take a 19-16 lead that it would not relinquish. From there, the Beach led the rest of the way and put the game away on an ace from Glenn to win, 25-20.

The fourth set belonged to the Beach from the start as LBSU took an early 5-1 advantage. The Beach led the entire set as they used a pair of 5-0 runs to break the game open and lead by double-figures (23-13). Long Beach State claimed the match thanks to a kill from Jaylen Jordan that gave the Beach the fourth set, 25-15.

Emerson Wilford led the Shockers with 13 kills, while Morgan Stout added 10. Setter Izzy Strand finished with a double-double (38 assists, 10 digs), while adding five kills. Libero Annalie Heliste logged 17 digs in the backcourt, while Madison Wilson put up two blocks at the net.

Long Beach State will continue action at the Nebraska Classic on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 9 a.m., when the Beach face No. 14 Arizona State at the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
