Softball Welcomes Three Division I Transfers

Kim Sowder and her staff have secured the commitment of three student-athletes from the transfer portal.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State has received commitments from three NCAA transfers, joining eight incoming freshmen as part of the incoming class for the 2025 season. The Beach will welcome in one senior and two sophomores with Division I experience.
Lindsey Cowans
Pitcher
5-4, Senior
Camarillo, Calif.
Long Island
Pitcher Lindsey Cowans will provide additional depth for the Long Beach State pitching staff with a ton of experience and success at a high level. A two-time All-NEC selection with Long Island, Cowans had 129 strikeouts over 185.0 innings pitched last season for LIU as the Sharks went 32-21 as the team's primary pitcher. Cowans posted a 2.76 ERA over 20 starts, throwing a no-hitter and back-to-back shutouts in league play. Cowans crossed the country after a pair of seasons at Moorpark College, where she was CCCAA All-State selection after going 18-5 with an 0.85 ERA and 201 strikeouts in 2022.

Brooklyn Lee
Catcher
5-9, Sophomore
La Verne, Calif.
UC San Diego
The Beach will add one player with Big West experience in catcher Brooklyn Lee. Lee started in 44 games for UC San Diego in her first collegiate season, earning Big West All-Freshman team honors aver hitting .272 with five doubles on the year. The primary catcher for the Tritons last season, Lee was a three-time First Team All-League selection in high school coming out of Western Christian School as well as a two-time All-CIF selection.

"Brooklyn is a strong, consistent player both offensively and behind the dish. She has the kind of competitive spirit we are looking for and we're excited to have her at the Beach."
Avery Weisbrook
Infield
5-6, Sophomore
Torrance, Calif.
Florida State
Avery Weisbrook returns to Southern California after two seasons at Florida State. A top national recruit coming out of South Torrance High School, Weisbrook was a career .397 hitter with eight home runs and 41 RBI, winning three league championships. As a senior, she hit .414 with six home runs, 22 RBI and 10 doubles to earn a four-star recruiting ranking and was listed as the No. 40 recruit in the country by Extra Innings and No. 52 by FloSoftball. In 2023, Weisbrook made 25 appearances for Florida State, starting in eight games before redshirting during the 2024 campaign.

"We're excited to be adding Avery to our Beach Family. She's a talented middle infielder with a strong bat. She brings valuable postseason experience and is hungry to get back on the field and compete."
Those three players join eight freshmen along with six returning starters and returning pitchers Kate Barnett, Eryka Gonzales and Shannon Haddad.
