The Collegiate Sports Communicator Academic All-America At-Large award recognizes outstanding academic and athletic achievement across sports not covered individually within the program.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Eight additional Long Beach State student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-District by Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) as the final group was announced from the At-Large sports, covering programs that don't have their own individual awards.
For LBSU, that meant recipients from four spring sports in Men's Volleyball, Women's Golf, Women's Water Polo and Beach Volleyball as each program had two honorees.
Nominees for the honor have to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, be a sophomore standing or above academically and meet stringent performance minimums in their respective sports. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
The national runners-up, Long Beach State Men's Volleyball had two seniors recognized following their outstanding season. A graduate student, setter Aidan Knipe had a perfect 4.00 GPA while pursuing his Master's Degree in Sport Management, and guided the Men's Volleyball team to a nation-leading .342 hitting percentage along with a Big West Conference championship and a return to the NCAA Tournament. Senior Mason Briggs was also recognized. A Finance major, Briggs was a First-Team All-American after starting every match during the 2024 season. The senior closes his career at Long Beach State ranked second in career digs in program history.
Beach Volleyball was another program that reached the NCAA Finals and had two student-athletes earn Academic All-District honors. Senior Christine Deroos was an AVCA Top Flight award winner while primarily playing in the fourth flight for Long Beach State, who reached the NCAA Championship for the second straight season and closed the year ranked No. 10 in the nation. Sophomore Madison Le was a Second-Team All-Big West selection and a Top 10 finisher at the Big West championship, earning CSC honors as a Public Relations major.
