Long Beach State Tied For Second Place After Two Rounds Of The Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate

Steen Zeman is in the top five after he shot 3-under par for the tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. – After playing 36 holes on day one of the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate, No. 50 Long Beach State is tied for second place at 2-under par. The Beach sit six strokes behind host and tournament leader No. 11 Arizona. 
 
In round one, Long Beach State shot a 295 as a team to kick off the tournament. However, the Beach came out with a strong second round, shooting 9-under par and jumping four spots on the leaderboard. They are tied with No. 19 New Mexico at 2-under par for second place as they head into the final round on Tuesday.
 
"The team battled really hard today," said Head Coach Rob Murray. "We didn't get off to a great start and had to fight back in the second round on a hard golf course in tough conditions."
 
Steen Zeman is leading the Beach as he sits 3-under par for the tournament. After shooting a 73 in the first round, Zeman responded with six birdies for a 68 to put himself three strokes behind the leader.
 
Clay Seeber is tied for eighth after finishing 1-under par on the day. Seeber shot 2-under par in round two, while firing five birdies in a row on the back nine. Charlie Forster is one stroke behind Seeber. Forster eagled the 10th hole in his second round to finish the round with a 2-under.
 
Alejandro de Castro Piera is in the top 20 after his day one performance, while Jaden Huggins is at 13-over par in the tournament after adding five birdies on the day. Jack Cantlay, who is competing as an individual, was unable to finish his second round due to darkness. He is tied for 29th with two holes left to play.
 
"We're within striking distance of the 11th ranked Wildcats on their home course going into the final round," Murray added.
 
The Beach will compete in the final round of the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate Tuesday, March 19 with the first tee time set to start after the remaining schools complete their second round. Beach fans can follow along at SmartGolf.com.
