The tournament will be played over three days from Kaua’i.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will have a quick turnaround, taking part in second tournament in less than a week by participating in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, hosted by Hawai'i.
Long Beach State is returning to the tournament for the second year in a row after placing third last season as a team. The tournament will be played on Kaua'i for the first time in the 38-year history of the event, as the Ocean Course Hokuala will be the course for all three days.
The field will include 15 teams, including three ranked in the Top 50 in Arizona State, Washington and North Carolina. Long Beach State and Hawai'i are the only Big West teams participating, with the field rounded out by Boise State, Fresno State, Mercer, Morehead State, New Mexico, Rutgers, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Texas State and Tulane.
Fresh off of her Top 10 finish at the Silicon Valley Showcase, senior Angelina Kim will lead the lineup for Long Beach State. Kim fired a final round 68 at Green Hills Country Club to finish in 9th place in the 59-golfer field Wednesday. Kim was the individual medalist last year at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
Janae Leovao was Long Beach State's second low scorer last week and will hold that spot in the lineup for the Beach, while freshman Andee Avery will play third for Long Beach State. The Beach will welcome back Jasmine Leovao who is back with the team after missing the Silicon Valley Showcase. She will play fourth, and Erin Lee will play fifth after an encouraging showing in Millbrae, her first collegiate team competition.
Both sophomore Madison Le and junior Kristina Ponomareva will compete as individuals at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational as well. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be found through Smart Golf at https://smartgolf.online/tournament_access/dr-donnis-thompson-invitational-e0ed10bc.
