LBSU Track Teams Win Their First League Indoor Titles

SPOKANE, Wash.— Long Beach State swept the team titles at Monday's 31st MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Podium Powered by STCU. It is the first MPSF title for both programs.

MEN
Kash Powell repeated as the 800m champion. Powell ran 1:51.20 to take home the top honors.

Kyle Jankans won his second consecutive MPSF high jump championship, posting a leap of 6-11.

Novye' James took home the triple jump title as he 50-3 1/2. His performance is the seventh longest in school history. 

Aidan Turner won the heptathlon after scoring 5,092 points. Turner won three individual events within the heptathlon (60m, high jump, pole vault). Turner's score broke the Canadian U20 Record in the event. The previous mark was 4,898, set by Denver Krupity in 2018. His score is the fifth-best in school history

After winning the long jump, Elijah Harris finished second in the triple jump. He recorded a leap of 49-9 1/4, the ninth-best in school history. 

Justin Watterson broke the school record in the 60m hurdles after running 7.94. Watterson finished third in the race.

Patrick Henderson came in third in the 400m by posting the 10th fastest time in school history, 48.01.

Alex Kalmar finished third in the mile, running 4:15.79.

TJ Funches was third in the high jump (6-7). 

Aiden Pastorian (53-9) and Jaylon Wells (53-5 3/4) were fifth and sixth in the shot put to score for the Beach.

Mario Tavares' 8:27.23 earned fifth-place points and became the ninth fastest time in school history.

Cameron Rhone was sixth in the 800m (1:54.04).

The 4x400m relay of Omri Shiff, Henderson, Powell, and Watterson was the runner-up. The team ran 3:13.00 for the fourth fastest time in school history.

The Beach scored 158 points, defeating second-place Cal State Fullerton by 37 points. CSUN (102) was third, followed by Portland (94) and UC Riverside (35).

WOMEN
Rahni Turner began the day by winning the 60m hurdles in a school record time of 8.25. 

Sofia Lavreshina won the 400m in a time of 53.73.

Hailey Fune', who broke Turner's previous school mark in the 60m hurdles on Sunday (8.30), finished second after running 8.35 in the event's finals.

Fune' scored the most points of any women's entry with 28. In addition to her 60m hurdles effort, she won the pentathlon, finishing fourth in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.

Amyah Davis placed fourth in the 60m hurdles after running 8.57, the fifth fastest time in school history.

Kaitlyn Williams placed fourth in the 60m (7.52).

The 4x400m relay of Lavershina, Turner, Davis, and Daryana Hall was fourth (3:48.17). The time is the fourth fastest in school history.

Tayah DeSousa was sixth in the 60m hurdles, running a season-best 8.64.

Long Beach State scored 132 points compared to 109.83 for second-place Hawai'i. UC Davis (108.33) was third, followed by UC Irvine (69.5), San Francisco (55), Cal State Fullerton (50.33)
