Balanced Attack Leads Long Beach State To A Sweep Of CSUN

The Beach hit .337 and posted 11 blocks in the straight set road win over the Matadors
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball Team went into Premier America Credit Union Arena and rolled to a 3-0 [27-25, 25-12, 25-19] sweep of CSUN on Thursday night.
The Beach (10-5, 4-1 Big West) have now won six of their last seven matches. Meanwhile, CSUN (6-10, 1-4 Big West) suffered is fourth loss in the last five contests.
Senior setter Zayna Meyer led Long Beach State to a .337 hitting percentage as she collected 33 assists and spread the ball around getting four hitters at least half a dozen kills. Meyer contributed on the offensive attack as well knocking down five kills on a .571 (5-1-7) clip. She was solid on both sides of the ball as she put up seven blocks to tie her career-high, while adding five digs, and one ace.
Leading the Beach's offense attack was sophomore Ella Lomigora who recorded 10 kills on the night while hitting .600 (10-1-15). Right behind Lomigora was freshman Madi Maxwell who tallied nine kills, while redshirt freshman Jaida Harris added eight.
On the defensive end, Long Beach State got another outstanding performance from senior middle blocker Kameron Bacon who recorded six blocks at the net. Bacon also chipped in six kills, while hitting .625 (6-1-8) in the match. Her stout defense helped limit the Matadors' offense to a .058 hitting percentage.
The match began as a back-and-forth affair between the Beach and the Matadors. After CSUN took a four-point lead (12-8), Long Beach State called a timeout to regroup. From there, the Beach went on a 4-0 run to make it a one-point game (15-14). The two teams found themselves deadlocked at 22-all and fought each other through three set points, before LBSU scored three-straight points to end the game with a 27-25 overtime victory.
After the close opening set, Long Beach found its groove. The Beach hit .419 (15-2-31) in the second set and used an 8-1 run to open up a 15-8 lead over the Matadors. With the game leaning heavily in Long Beach State's favor, the Beach used the momentum to extend their lead to eight (20-12) as CSUN called for a timeout. The break in action did not stop the Beach. LBSU continued its scoring run that ended the game, 25-12.
The conference foes battled through nine points and four lead changes in the third set. By the media timeout, Long Beach State held a 15-13 edge over CSUN. The Beach tallied five-consecutive points to jump out to an eight-point (22-15) advantage. LBSU went on to hit .360 (13-4-25) in the frame as the Beach downed CSUN, 25-19, to complete the sweep on a dump from Meyer.
The Matadors were led by Hailey Brockway's 10 kills, while Katie Kolar finished with a double-double (25 assists, 10 digs).
Long Beach State continues its road swing on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Cal State Bakersfield. First serve is set for 4 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
