Long Beach State Dominates UC Santa Barbara 4-1 In Home Win

9/24/2023 3:13:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Long Beach State outshot the Gauchos 16-6 and extended their home unbeaten streak.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State continued their unbeaten run at home in dominant fashion, rolling out to a 4-1 win at George Allen Field on Sunday over UC Santa Barbara.

Long Beach State (6-3-2, 1-0-1 Big West) controlled the action throughout, ultimately outshooting UC Santa Barbara (2-4-6, 0-2-1) and putting more shots on target than UCSB had in total on the day.

Sara Ybarra had a shot in the box blocked in the opening minutes, establishing the run of play that was continued in the early going. Kassandra Ceja was turned away only by a tremendous save from Maddie Buckley, and Cherrie Cox hit the crossbar in the 11th minute.

Long Beach State opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute, as Elysia Laramie received the ball and with a quick give and go found herself free in front of Buckley, making the game 1-0 with the senior's eighth goal of the season.

That score would hold through the first half, though the Beach would again quickly establish themselves in the second. Off of a set piece, Julia Moore came free and smashed home her fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute, and then just minutes later, Cox was the recipient of nice buildup from Kana Uchida and Ceja. Cox showed some great skill to dance around Buckley and put home the third in the 54th minute.

Long Beach State added one more as Kana Uchida delivered a tremendous ball to Amanda Perez who tallied her first goal with the Beach to make the score 4-0. The Gauchos spoiled the shutout in the final minutes as Brenna Madruga redirected a Jessica Tamayo for the final scoreline of 4-1 in the 87th.

Long Beach State is now unbeaten in their last five games at George Allen Field, and will look to carry the team's momentum with them on the road in a pair of Big West away games at UC Davis and at CSU Bakersfield. The Beach faces the Aggies on Thursday, September 28 in the first of those two contests at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
