Julia Moore’s second goal of the year gave Long Beach State a second-half equalizer.
LONG BEACH, Calif. --- In front of a raucous crowd 1500 strong at George Allen Field, Long Beach State rallied back with a commanding second half effort in a 1-1 draw against UC Irvine to begin Big West action Thursday night.
Â
Long Beach State (4-3-2, 0-0-1 Big West) got off to a quick start, earning four corner kicks in the first 15 minutes, with Julia Moore getting an early taste of the action with a shot just wide after the first one as the Beach put the pressure on early against UC Irvine (3-4-2, 0-0-1 Big West).
Â
Zora Standifer made a strong clearance in the early minutes in goal defending the 'Eaters in transition, but UCI struck first on the counter, springing top goal scorer Alyssa Moore into space for her fifth goal of the season in the 12th minute, a scoreline that would hold through the rest of the first half.
Â
Immediately out of the second half kickoff Long Beach State had a very dangerous chance, finding Moore again and forcing Gio Hinojosa into an early save seconds into the half.
              Â
On the night, Long Beach State would hold the possession edge and ultimately spent 58 percent of their possession in the UCI half, ultimately finishing with 13 shots. Summer Laskey was able to put a free header on target in the 75th minute as the Beach continued to build pressure, and Long Beach State finally broke through in the final 10 minutes.
Â
A beautiful entry pass was able to the sophomore midfielder Moore, and the third time was the charm as she knocked a low finish past Hinojosa to even the score at 1-1, earning a draw for the second straight regular season tie in the Black and Blue Rivalry.
Â
Long Beach State closes their non-conference schedule at home on Sunday, hosting Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. The Beach will recognize their three graduates prior to the game in Katarina Decaroli, Aleea Caceres and Elysia Laramie.
