Long Beach To Compete In UC Riverside Invitational

The Beach will be competing in their second race of the season this Saturday in Riverside, California.
The team is coming off of a strong start at the Big West Preview, where the men's team placed fourth and the women's team placed third. Leading the women to a third place victory was junior Allie Scimia, who placed eighth in the 5k with a time of 18:14.2. Behind her were a number of transfers, including junior transfer Marikay Schwab who placed in the top 20 with a time of 18:18.2. Also in the top 20 was Maddie Franco who finished with a time of 18:28.1.
Transfers also proved to be a great addition to the men's team as Mario Tavares, a sophomore transfer, led the team with a time of 18:31.0 in the 6k. Michael Phillips, a seasoned Long Beach senior, came in second for the Beach with a time of 18:39 and rounding out the scorers for the team was freshman Cameron Rhone.
