Seven Track Student-Athletes Named USTFCCCA All-Academic; Women’s Team Earn National Honors

The women’s track and field team has earned national All-Academic status for 27 consecutive years.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The back-to-back Big West Champion women's track and field has been named a National Academic Team by the USTFCCCA along with seven individuals named to USTFCCCA's All-Academic list.
 
The honor marks the 27th consecutive season women's track and field has garnered National Academic honors, which is tied for most in the award's history. This year, the team posted a 3.263 cumulative GPA with 32 student-athletes on the team earning a spring semester GPA above 3.0 and 10 achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 
Individually, four men earned All-Academic status marking the most for the men's team since 2017. Mohammed Mohamed (4.0 GPA, Sports Management), TJ Wiggins (3.75 GPA, Kinesiology), Pablo Gamez (3.46 GPA, Human Development), and Caleb Roberson (3.25 GPA, American Studies) were all recipients. Mohamed qualified for his second NCAA West Prelim meet this past season while the trio of Wiggins, Gamez, and Roberson were all first-time qualifiers.
 
On the women's side, Ryley Fick (3.82 GPA, Dietetic Food Administration), Rori Denness-Lamont (3.63 GPA, Health Science), and Alex Heerink-van Breda (3.37 GPA, Food Science) earned All-Academic status. For Fick, it is her second consecutive All-Academic season after garnering the award last year as well. Denness-Lamont and Heerink-van Breda are both first-time honorees after appearing in their first NCAA West Preliminaries this season.
 
The seven total USTFCCCA All-Academic selections is the most for Long Beach State since the 2017 season which also saw seven earn the award.
 
To earn All-Academic status, a team must combine for a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. For an individual, a student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher and compete in the NCAA Division I Indoor/Outdoor Championships.
