Junior transfer Steen Zeman will come to the Beach from Ventura College
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Men's Golf Coach Rob Murray announced the addition of junior transfer Steen Zeman. Zeman will come to the Beach as a walk-on for the 2023-24 season after playing two years at Ventura College.
"Steen brings experience from the junior college level that will help the depth of our roster," said Murray. "He's had to deal with a lot as a college golfer with COVID halting his college career and having to sit out a year to maintain his eligibility. We look forward to having that added level of maturity on our team and are excited to welcome him to the Beach."
Zeman began his collegiate career in 2020 at Ventura College and posted a stroke average of 73 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In 2022 as a sophomore, Zeman was named Western State Conference Player of the Year as he captured the WSC individual title with a 2-under par 142 after shooting 70-72. Zeman also turned in a solid performance at the CCCAA State Championships where he shot 73-70 for a 143, 1-under par for a tie for sixth place on his way to being named All-State. The 2022 Ventura College Male Athlete of the Year finished the season with a stroke average of 72, while garnering First Team All-State accolades.
Zeman shot a career-low 63 to qualify for the 112th California Amateur Championship which will be held June 19-24 at the Lake Merced Golf Course.
Most recently, Zeman fired a 69 for 3-under at Soule Park in the SCGA Amateur qualifier to earn a spot in the 124th Amateur Championship which will take place later this summer at Rolling Hills Country Club.
Prior to his collegiate experience, Zeman was a four-year letterwinner at Oxnard High School. In his time with the Yellow Jackets, he collected First Team All-League honors in his freshman season, before earning League MVP accolades as a sophomore, junior, and senior.
