62 Long Beach State Spring Student-Athletes Recognized As Academic All-Big West

Student-Athletes from 10 spring sports were recognized for their efforts in competition and the classroom.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – On Thursday the Big West Conference announced its spring recipients of Academic All-Conference, recognizing combined excellence in the classroom as well as competition.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference honor, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.00 cumulative institutional grade point average (GPA), must have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and must have competed in at least 50 percent of the institution's contests in the student-athlete's respective sport.
Following the spring 2023 season, two Big West champions in Softball and Women's Track and Field led the way with 14 recipients each. From softball, Jacquelyn Bickar, Mikayla Ceballos, Cam Cecil, Rebekah Durazo, Sophia Fernandez, Samantha Fowler, Shelby Frutoz, Addison Kostrencich, Sinclair Lawhorn, Lilyanna Martinez, Mo Quinlan Carly Robbins, Emily Salazar and Corissa Sweet all earned the honor while Nyah Chavez, Tessa Chen, Hailey Danskin, Madie DeBorde, Rori Dennis-Lamont, Ryley Fick, Hailey Fune, Anitha Graves, Kendall Harrison, Maggie Lear, Alexis Pagala, Keely Rasmussen, Kayla Reynante and Malia Talavou all were recognized from the back-to-back track and field champions.
Men's Track and Field had seven honorees in Benjamin Ahenguah, Pablo Gamez, Nathan Garibay, Malik Harness, Ryan Hernandez, Mohammed Mohamed and Michael Phillips. Women's Water Polo also had seven honorees in Anne de Kleer, Rachael Kowalchick, Gabriella Matafora-Adams, Jamie Oberman, Chelsea Oliver, Amanda Price and Mariah Walker.
Two more Big West Champions each had six honorees. Beach Volleyball was represented by Haley Carrington, Christine DeRoos, Savannah Lyons, Emily Mattoon, Mari Molina and Sydney Stevens while Mason Briggs, Clarke Godbold, Shane Holdaway, Aidan Knipe, Calvin Sanborn and Simon Towie all qualified from Men's Volleyball.
Four golfers and one tennis player were honored from three young programs in Isaac Rodea from Men's Golf, Angelina Kim, Hannah Ko and Kristina Ponomareva from Women's Golf and Peppi Ramstedt from Women's Tennis. Finally, Jonathon Long, Rocco Peppi and Jake Rons were earned the honor from the Dirtbags who had fewer eligible this year due to the high number of incoming transfers.
In total for the 2022-23 campaign, Long Beach State had 94 student-athletes recognized by the program across 16 sports for the Dennis Farrell Big West Commissioner's Cup champions.
