Ian Gilligan and Isaac Rodea are tied for third place after shooting 4-under par

LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Big West Men's Golf Championship Second Round was suspended due to excessive wind and unplayable conditions on Monday. At the time of stoppage, Long Beach State sat atop the leaderboard with a 5-under par showing at the La Quinta Country Club.

The Beach fired a 290 on the second day of action as they battled the elements in the desert, but still posted a 5-under par showing and stayed in first place as they managed to finish round two. Cal State Fullerton is currently in second place with shooting 2-under par, while CSUN is in third with a 2-over par performance to round out the top three.

UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Riverside are the only three teams that were unable to complete the second round.

Leading the way for the Beach are No. 16 Ian Gilligan and Isaac Rodea. The duo each fired a 71 on the second day of competition to finish 1-under par, bringing their total to 140 for 4-under par. Gilligan birdied four holes, while Rodea sunk an eagle on the sixth hole.

The freshman pair of Jaden Huggins and Jack Cantlay finished in a tie for 15th place as they both shot 3-over par. Huggins shaved a stroke off his game with a 73 as he climbed six spots on the leaderboard. Meanwhile, Cantlay shot a 78 in the second round.

Rounding out the Long Beach State lineup, Steven Deutsch shot a 75, three strokes better than his first round performance, to move up seven places on the leaderboard as he heads into the third round in a tie for 35th.

The Aggies, Gauchos, and Highlanders will finish the second round on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. tee time, before the final round gets underway at 8 a.m. Fans can follow all the action via GolfStat.com.
