Beach Volleyball to Play Cal in Opening Round of NCAA Championships

Long Beach State earned an automatic bid into the postseason after winning their first ever Big West Championship.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Long Beach State beach volleyball team has been selected as the No. 9 seed in the NCAA Championships and will take on No. 8 seeded California in the opening round. The bracket was revealed on Sunday morning by the NCAA.

This will be the Long Beach State's second NCAA Championship appearance in program history with the first coming in 2017. The Beach earned the automatic bid for the Big West after an undefeated bracket run in the conference championships in Hawai'i last weekend.

Cal earned an at-large bid into the tournament with a 28-9 overall record and second-place finish in the PAC-12 Championships.

The Beach's opening round matchup will be on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT. All the opening duals will be televised live by the ESPN networks, with ESPNU providing the coverage on Friday, ESPN2 on Saturday, and the championship match will be live on ESPN.
