Haddad’s Gem Leads Long Beach State To Series Sweep At UC Davis

All four hits for Long Beach State were extra-base hits, including three triples.
DAVIS, Calif. – Long Beach State used their team speed with three triples to grab two runs, well more than enough support for sophomore Shannon Haddad, who pitched her fourth complete game shutout of the season.
Haddad scattered four hits and struck out six with no walks in a fantastic outing, her eighth complete game of the season.
After two clean innings, Long Beach State (16-14, 6-0 Big West) was able to get on the board in the third. Cam Cecil hit a leadoff triple, and while UC Davis (15-11, 2-4 B0ig West) grabbed two outs, a passed ball from Grace Kilday allowed the senior to score and put the Beach in front, 1-0.
Cecil got the action started for the second run of the game as well. Hit by a pitch, she was replaced after a fielder's choice by Makayla Medellin, who then raced home to score on a Lilyanna Martinez triple to add to the lead in the fifth inning.
That was more than enough for Haddad, who retired the final nine batters as the Beach improved to 6-0 with the win, the team's eighth straight.
Long Beach State will remain on the road next weekend, taking on CSUN for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 31st at 1 p.m.

Another big hit for @LBSUSoftball! This time it's Lilyanna Martinez with a triple to score Makayla Medellin, and it's 2-0 Long Beach State on top at UC Davis. #GoBeach pic.twitter.com/Ywab1hWm4A
