LONG BEACH, Calif. – Following week two of the outdoor season, Rahni Turner and Sebastian Coleman have earned Big West weekly honors. Turner is the Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week while Coleman is the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Turner had a record-breaking performance at the Ben Brown Invitational on the way to her first career Big West weekly honor. Running a 13.48 in the 100m Hurdles, she broke the school record that stood untouched for nearly two decades. She dominated the race in Fullerton, finishing over half a second faster than the second-place finisher.
Beyond her new school record, the Mesa, Ariz. native ran a leg in both the 4x100m and 4x400m Relay races, helping the Beach to victories in both events. In the 400m Relay, Turner ran the third leg as the quartet posted a 45.99, nearly a full second quicker than the runner-up team. In the 1600m Relay, she served as the anchor leg wrapping up a time of 3:52.50 winning the race by two seconds.
Turner currently leads the entire NCAA in the women's 100m Hurdles rankings.
Coleman competed in all three throws events, finishing top ten in each of them. His best performance came in the Hammer Throw, posting a mark of 64.74m (212-5) to win the event. The throw marks a new season-best for the senior.
In Shot Put, he posted a mark of 15.78m (51-9.25) on his second attempt to finish fourth overall. In Discus, his throw of 51.05m (167-6) was good for seventh overall in the field over 40 student-athletes. The three top tens gives the San Tan Valley, Ariz. native the fourth Big West weekly honor of his Long Beach State career.
Coleman ranks third in the nation in Hammer, fifth in Shot Put, and seventh in Discus through the first two weeks of the season.
