LONG BEACH, Calif. – The 2022-23 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), was announced on Tuesday and Long Beach State boasted three players who were recognized in sophomore guard Patricia Chung, junior guard Kristyna Jeskeova, and graduate student guard Courtney Murphy.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Chung was selected to the Academic All-District team after posting a 3.89 GPA as a psychology major. On the court, Chung has come off the bench and played in every game this season averaging 2.4 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game. This season, she has accumulated 18 assists and 12 steals.
Jeskeova, a psychology major with a 3.70 GPA, earned the honors after leading the Beach in rebounding (6.7 rpg), steals (63), and blocks (20). Jeskeova started in all 23 games she played this season, before suffering a season-ending injury earlier this month.
Rounding out Long Beach State's honorees is Courtney Murphy who is a graduate student working towards her master's degree in sports management. Murphy currently owns a 4.00 GPA at Long Beach State, after having graduated from Seattle University with an undergraduate GPA of 3.77.
On the court, Murphy has played in all 26 games this season and has made one start. She is averaging 4.8 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game to go along with 21 assists, 11 steals, and three blocks.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-March.
