Long Beach State closes the non-conference with an 8-4 record, the most wins since the 1999-2000 season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Jadon Jones scored a game-high 23 points, leading an offensive effort that saw the Beach score 107 points with 12 different scorers and finish with 21 assists as Long Beach State took care of business in their first game with Cal State Dominguez Hills in over 20 years in a 107-78 victory.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-1, Exhib.) entered the contest ranked as high as 16th in Division I, and held tough with Long Beach State (8-4) through the opening minutes behind a couple of big shots from Jeremy Dent-Smith, who finished with 21 points. Tied 9-9, a 3-pointer from Jones sparked an 11-2 run for Long Beach State and the rout was on.
With the starters getting plenty of action in the first half, Long Beach State put up 62 points in the first 20 minutes and led 62-42 going into the break. The rest of the team had plenty of time to shine in the second half, as everyone who played saw over five minutes of action and all but one player scored three or more points on the night for the Beach.
Maddox Monson matched his career-high with five points, Jason Hart Jr. set his with eight and the usual suspects all had big games for the Beach. Jones had five rebounds to go with his 23 points, Lassina Traore put up his sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Amari Stroud got his third start of the season and also had a career-high with 13 points. Marcus Tsohonis pitched in 12 and Isa Silva had eight points with a team-high five assists, guiding the offense to 50.0% shooting from the floor.
Concluding the non-conference with a record of 8-4, Long Beach State has the most wins prior to the start of Big West action since the 1999-2000 season when the team went 8-3. Long Beach State will get a brief respite and then open up league play with a rivalry game straight away, traveling to face Cal State Fullerton in Titan Gym on Thursday, December 28.
