Men’s Basketball Rolls To 107-63 Exhibition Win Over Cal Lutheran

Six players scored in double-figures for Long Beach State, who finished with 29 assists on the night.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – In a final tuneup before Monday's regular season opener, Long Beach State saw every available player get major minutes in a convincing 107-63 rout of Cal Lutheran in front of an engaged Walter Pyramid crowd.
Showing good ball movement and unselfishness, Long Beach State finished with 29 assists on 43 made baskets, led by graduate transfer Messiah Thompson who had eight assists to go with his 11 points on the night. Isa Silva had six assists with six points as the team's other new point guard while Aboubacar Traore had five assists, three blocks and three steals in limited minutes.
The Beach were led on the night by big man Lassina Traore, who in 18 minutes finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, closely followed by Jadon Jones who had 17 points as well as five steals, all coming in the first half. Marcus Tsohonis had 14 points, Amari Stroud had 12, Thompson scored 11 and freshman Varick Lewis had 10 to round out the balanced scoring on the night for the Beach.
Cal Lutheran, who finished with 10 made threes on the night, kept things close early with a pair of 3-pointers to keep the score at 11-6, but the Beach went on the first of a number of big runs to extend the lead to 24-10. Continuing to push, a 15-1 run capped by a Stroud paint touch increased the lead to 26 with just over five minutes to play in the first half, and the Beach were in control for the remainder of the game, as no player of the 13 suited for LBSU saw fewer than eight minutes on the night.
Long Beach State will play on the road for the team's first seven games, starting with a trip to face Portland on the NCAA opening day of the season, November 6 with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with coverage live on the WCC Network.
