Elise Agi leads Long Beach State with 17 kills, while Savana Chacon logs 18 digs and four aces
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Long Beach State came into San Diego and controlled the match as the Beach earned a 3-0 [25-19, 25-17, 25-23] sweep of the Tritons on Tuesday night at LionTree Arena.
The Beach (19-8, 13-4 Big West) cruised through the first two sets, but got a little more of a battle from the Tritons (17-12, 9-8 Big West) in the third set. Despite that, Long Beach State managed to come away with a sweep as the Beach hit .284 in the contest, as they hit over .300 in the second and third sets.
Elise Agi led the offensive attack with 17 kills on a .333 attack percentage to go along with six digs.
Zayna Meyer moved the ball around well as she distributed 31 assists and had four hitters record five or more kills on the night. Meyer knocked down a few kills herself, dropping in three dumps on a .286 clip. She also contributed on defense with eight digs, two aces, and one block.
Savana Chacon anchored the backrow with 18 digs. If that weren't enough, the libero tied her career-high as she served up four-consecutive aces in the third set to help the Beach come back and complete the sweep.
Long Beach State came out ready to go. The Beach took a quick 4-1 lead over the Tritons and never trailed. Despite UC San Diego cutting LBSU's lead down to two (12-10), the Beach remained composed. Long Beach went on a 6-0 run to break the game open (18-10) and went on to win, 25-19.
Set two was closer to start, but the Beach strung together three 4-0 runs to open up a nine-point (22-13) advantage. Jenna Giambi came in the game and served up a storm for LBSU as her solid serving and passing led to four-straight kills from Agi and Katie Kennedy as they each recorded two kills in that span. The Beach hit .366 in the frame and cruised to a 25-17 victory as they took a 2-0 lead over UC San Diego.
UC San Diego came out of the intermission seemingly set on not getting swept. The Tritons took an early 7-3 lead forcing Long Beach State to call for a timeout. The Beach chipped away and tied the game 9-9 on a kill from Agi. After falling behind, 11-9, Chacon led Long Beach State on a 5-0 run highlighted by her four-straight aces to turn the deficit into a 14-11 lead. The Tritons refused to quit as they used two 4-0 run to go up 20-17 as the Beach utilized their final timeout. The break in action seemed to help LBSU regroup as they came out and evened the score at 20-all. From there, they scored three-straight to lead 23-21, before putting the game and match away, 25-23, on a kill from Agi.
The Tritons were led by Ava McInnes' 11 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. She also added eight digs, one block, and one assist on the night. At setter, Nevada Knowles finished with a double-double notching 22 assists and 10 digs. Libero Natalie Repetti led the team with 14 digs, while Lauren Brooker added eight digs, seven kills, six assists, three aces, and one block.

She also added three digs and two blocks. Kennedy finished the match with five kills and three blocks.
