LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach Volleyball team has announced their upcoming schedule for the 2024 season. The team will play 12 home matches and host a trio of large tournaments as part of the spring campaign. Long Beach State will host most of their matches in a local partnership at the Long Beach City College Beach Volleyball Complex.
The season opener will be played in Malibu on February 24 where they'll take on the hosts Pepperdine along with Vanguard University. The next weekend the team will head to USC to face the defending NCAA champions as part of a tournament hosted by the Trojans.
The first home match will be on March 9 as the team holds the Beach Invitational, inviting six schools to Long Beach. They will play Southern Miss and Stetson, followed by matches against FIU and LMU the next day. A total of 14 matches will be played over the two day tournament.
On March 13, the Beach will make their return to the Long Beach State campus, hosting a tri-dual with Grand Canyon and Georgia State at the LBSU Sand Courts. The following weekend will see Long Beach State host another large tournament with Arizona State, Nebraska, and Texas among others to play against the Beach and each other at LBCC. The games will be played March 15-16 and the team will be on the road for almost a month after.
The Big West Challenge returns to the schedule, pitting every Big West team against each other over three days from March 22-24 in a tournament co-hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. Long Beach State closes out the regular season in San Luis Obispo, competing in the Center of Effort Challenge which will feature competitors from across the country, most of whom are projected to be in the top ten. They will then host Cal State LA and Vanguard for a tri-dual for the program's senior day.
Long Beach State will host this year's Big West Championship as defending champions. The games will be played at the LBCC Beach Volleyball Complex on April 26-27, and the NCAA Championships will happen shortly after on May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
"We have always scheduled with the goals of having one of the toughest strength of schedules in mind and I think this year is no exception. Every weekend our team will be matched against top ranked competition, and I look forward to the challenge for our team," said Head Coach Mike Campbell.
Attendance is free for all home matches for Beach Volleyball regardless of the venue.
