Garity & Scimia Pace Long Beach State at Big West Cross Country Championships

Long Beach State Finishes in Sixth in Both Races
NIPMO, Calif.—The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams both finished sixth at the Big West Championships Friday morning on Black Lake Golf Resort Course.

Quinn Garity led The Beach Men as he placed 16th in a time of 24:28.4. Mario Tavares followed in 17th at 24:29.4
Jay Brown lowered his 8k personal best by just over seven seconds as he ran 25:13.8 to place 31st. Will Frankenfeld turned in a 25:18.0 performance to come in 37th. Kyle Reden was 41st (25:25.3), with Cristian Martinez (25:38.6) finishing 47th. Cameron Rhone rounded out the LBSU scorers in 49th (25:44.4). Alex Kalmar was the final Long Beach State competitor. He did not score in 61st (26:25.3).
Davis Bove of Cal Poly (23:37.4) was the men's champion. Long Beach State finished sixth (140) as Cal Poly (27) took home the men's team honors.
Allie Scimia was the top-finishing Beach entry in the women's race. Scimia ran 21:41.4 to place 16th. Ailene Rios' 21:51.4 resulted in a 24th-place posting.
Leila Jones recorded a time of 21:55.7 to finish 30th. Louise Stonham (22:12.0) was 34th. Marikay Schwab (22:13.6) and Madeline Franco (22:16.9) posted back-to-back finishes in 36th and 37th. Alyssa Tapanes scored the final LBSU points in 49th (22:45.3). Jenna Gallegos completed The Beach performances in 62nd (23:10).
UC Davis' Sierra Atkins won the individual race (19:52.5). Long Beach State finished sixth (137), and Cal Poly was the women's team champion (39).
Next for Long Beach State is the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Friday, Nov. 10. Running on the Haggin Oaks Golf Course, the women's competition is set for 10 a.m. while the men's race is at 11 a.m.
