Beach Women’s Tennis Has Solid Finish At The ITA Southwest Regionals

Long Beach State won four singles contests and two doubles matches on Saturday
SAN DIEGO – The Long Beach State Women's Tennis team turned in a solid performance on Saturday at the ITA Southwest Regionals. The Beach earned two wins in doubles action, then picked up four singles victories on their last day of competition.
The highly competitive tournament allowed Long Beach State to get good reps under their belt against several Big West opponents, as well as some non-conference counterparts as well.
Long Beach State started the day with doubles competition and came away with two wins. The duo of Paulina Franco Martinessi and Peppi Ramstedt faced UC Irvine's Emily Fowler and Carolyna Fowler. The Beach tandem took down the Anteaters, 6-3, in a solid showing.
Hana Becirovic Novak and Rhona Cook battled it out with Cal State Fullerton's Mariia Nikitash and Milena Gevorgyn. The competitive match saw LBSU's duo squeak out a 7-6 (5) victory to earn the Beach's second doubles match of the day.
In singles action, Becirovic Novak dominated Hawaii's Sheena Masuda, 6-1, 6-2, while the other three Beach wins all went three sets.
Cook faced Hawaii's Joelle Lanz and dropped the first set, 6-4. However, Cook would not quit. She battled back and knocked off Lanz, 6-2, 10-8 to earn the hard-fought victory.
Sarah Medik went up against Cal State Fullerton's Seha Yu in her singles match. The product out of Dornbin, Austria rallied to defeat Yu 2-6, 6-10, 10-4.
Doga Akyurek claimed the Beach's final singles win of the day as she downed CSUN's Yulia Zhytelina by scores of 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Long Beach State looks to continue building during the fall season. The Beach will play next at the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., from Nov. 10-12.
