Cross Country Readies For Its Final Race Of The Regular Season

The teams will compete in the John Elders Titan Invitational this week before taking on the Big West Championships
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State continues in their home stretch as they compete in the John Elders Titan Invitational this Friday at Cal State Fullerton. The Women's 5K will start at 5 p.m. and the Men's 8K will follow at 5:40 p.m.
The team is coming off an outstanding performance this past Saturday at the Highlander Invitational, where the women's team earned first place. This was the program's first team win since 2011. They are currently ranked third among Big West schools and are in the USATFCCAA West Regional Ranking.
The women's team is peaking at just the right time as it continues to be led by Allie Scimia, who has been a consistent top performer for the Beach all season. She ran a time of 20:36.9 at the Highlander Invitational, almost identical to her run at the course the week before. This earned her a seventh place finish with more of her teammates coming in soon after. Louise Stonham and Leia Jones also placed in the Top 15 to aid the team in its win.
The men's team has been consistent this season as well as Cristian Martinez and Mario Tavares have both been solid runners for the team in every race. This past race also saw Quinn Garity, who ran a time of 24:16.8 to get himself into the Top 20 for the meet, earn a spot in the Long Beach State Top 10 (No. 8).
