LONG BEACH, Calif. –
It was a back-and-forth contest from the start that went down to the wire as Long Beach State dropped a heartbreaking contest to CSUN, 57-55, in the final seconds on Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid.

With just 4.7 seconds left, CSUN's (4-9, 3-0 Big West) Anaiyah Tu'ua drained a three to give the Matadors the win as the Beach (7-6, 2-1 Big West) called a timeout, but were unable to connect at the buzzer.

Long Beach State and CSUN battled each other throughout the game as they traded leads 11 times and neither team led by double digits. The Beach shot 43.1 percent in the game, while the Matadors posted a field goal percentage of 41.8. The difference seemed to be made on rebounds as CSUN outrebounded LBSU 38-23 in the contest.

The game started out close and Long Beach State held a three-point lead (12-9) at the end of the first quarter. CSUN managed to take its largest lead of the game (19-16) in the second quarter on a three from Tess Amundsen with 2:39 on the clock. The Matadors lead, however, was short-lived as the Beach closed out the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 25-21 lead into halftime.

The Beach started the second half with five-straight points to extend their lead to nine (30-21) at 7:48. That was the largest lead either team would take in the closely contested game.

Heading into the final quarter, Long Beach State held a 41-34 advantage over CSUN. However, the Matadors would go off in the fourth and outscore the Beach 23-14 in the frame to hand LBSU their first Big West loss of the season.

LBSU was led by Kianna Hamilton-Fisher who finished the game with 15 points, five assists, and four steals. Malia Bambrick added 12 points, four boards, one assist, and one steal, while Savannah Tucker rounded out the Beach double-digit scorers with 10 points to go along with one rebound, one assist, and one steal.

Kristyna Jeskeova turned in a solid performance for Long Beach State as she finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds, six steals, three assists, and two blocks.

CSUN's Amundsen led all scorers with 18 points, while Jordyn Jackson contributed 12. Tu'ua finished with six points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Long Beach State looks to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 7 against UC Irvine in the Black & Blue Rivalry. The Beach and the Anteaters tip-off at 4 p.m., at the Walter Pyramid. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
