Godbold, Torwie Earn Big West Weekly Awards

Clarke Godbold is named Big West Player of the Week, while Simon Torwie takes home Defensive Player of the Week honors

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State had two players earn Big West Weekly accolades as Clarke Godbold was named Player of the Week and Simon Torwie was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Godbold earned the honors after tying his career-high with a 17-kill performance as he led the Beach to a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Penn State. He hit .286 (17-7-35), while also contributing four blocks. With Godbold's solid performance, he helped the Beach improve to 5-0 while snapping Penn State's regular-season home winning streak at 21.

Torwie led the Long Beach State defense with a career-high tying eight blocks as he posted two solo stops and six block assists. In addition, he tallied a season-best seven kills on 10 swings for an attack percentage of .600 (7-1-10).

On the year, Torwie is averaging a nation-leading 1.81 blocks per set, as Long Beach State is averaging 3.16 blocks per set which also is tops in the country.
