No. 3 Long Beach State Kicks Off the 2023 Season with Exhibition Matches at North America Challenge

The Beach will play McMaster on Thursday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 7 in the North America Challenge
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 3 Long Beach State Men's Volleyball team kicks off the 2023 season with a pair of exhibition matches at the North America Challenge on Thursday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 7 as the Beach face off against McMaster of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Conference. The Beach and the Marauders will go head-to-head inside Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton, Ontario. First serve is set for 5 p.m. (PT) on Thursday and 10 a.m. (PT) on Saturday.
Long Beach State is coming off an impressive 2022 season in which they finished 21-6 and were the NCAA National Runner-Up. This season, the Beach return AVCA First Team All-American junior libero Mason Briggs, AVCA Second Team All-American junior outside hitter Clarke Godbold, and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selections senior outside hitter Spencer Olivier, and redshirt junior setter Aidan Knipe.
McMaster is currently in the midst of their season and they are 12-4 overall and 10-0 in OUA action. The Marauders are ranked No. 2 nationally and led by libero Matthew Rugosi and middle blocker Tyler Pavelic. Rugosi leads the team with 2.03 digs per set which is good for fifth in the league, while Pavelic's 0.86 blocks per set rank him third in the OUA.
Following the pair of exhibition matches in Canada, Long Beach State will officially open the 2023 season at the Walter Pyramid on Friday, Jan. 13 against King University at 7:30 p.m.
