Cross Country Heads to Riverside for UCR Invitational on Saturday

Long Beach State is ready for their second meet of the season this weekend.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Cross Country is set to open their 2022 campaign at the Anteater Opener, hosted by UC Irvine, on Thursday afternoon. It is the first of four regular season meets leading up to the conference championship.

Invitational Times: Women's 6K at 7:15 a.m. | Men's 8K at 7:50 a.m.
Open Race Times: Women's 5K at 8:25 a.m. | Men's 8K at 8:55 a.m.

The UC Riverside course is mostly flat with a few rollings, and hard packed dirt with pre-competition to reduce dust. It is run through the agricultural operations center, which features 100-year-old citrus trees.
The Beach is coming off a third place finish for both men's and women's teams in their season opening meet on September 1.
Allie Scimia posted the best finish with a 14:00.2 in the women's 4K to cross the line third. It was tops for all the Big West runners at the meet and just one second behind a pair of regionally ranked No. 6 California Baptist. Ryley Fick also had a great season opener posting a top ten finish with a time of 14:17.9.
On the men's side, Michael Phillips led the way with a seventh place finish. His time of 18:48.2 was third among the Big West competitors. Alex Kalmar was not far behind, crossing the line in 11th in 19:18.
Last year at the UCR Invitational, Fick and Phillips each posted program top ten marks as the Beach men finish tenth while the women finished eleventh.
