Beach Cross Country Opened the Season at the Anteater Opener

The Beach men and women’s team both finish third to kick off the new season.
IRVINE, Calif. - The 2022 season for the Beach Cross Country team started off strong as they competed at the Anteater Invitational against California Baptist, San Diego State, CSUN, and host UC Irvine on Thursday, September 1st. Allie Scimia and Michael Phillips led the way for their respective squads.
 
Women's 4K Results | Men's 6K Results
 
Scimia ran a time of 14:00.2 for a 3rd place finish overall in the women's 4K while Phillips finished 7th in the men's 6K with a time of 18:48.2.
 
Ryley Fick was the second Long Beach finisher for the women, and was 9th overall with a time of 14:17.9. Anitha Graves also finished in the top 20 with a time of 14:47.4 and teammate Lakely Nealis finished 25th with a time of 15:11.3.
 
Brienna Tafoya finished 32nd, Maggie Bauer came in 34th, and Jaxin Woodward squeezed in a time of 15:57.2 to get her 37th place finish to round out the Long Beach State scorers.
 
Alex Kalmar finished just outside of the top 10 in the men's race with a time of 19:18.0. Antonio Carbajal finished 13th and Mario Tavares finishing on his toes in 14th with times of 19:20.1 and 19:24.9, respectively.
 
Ryan Hernandez posted a time of 19:49.6 to finish 21st while Antonio Muñoz's 19:53.4 and Cameron Gill's 19:59.7 to finish 24th and 25th and round the men's scorers.
 
The men totaled 65 points and the women totaled 75 points for their third place finishes. California Baptist claimed the team and individual victories in both races.
 
The Beach are back in action on Saturday, September 17th at the UC Riverside Invitational.
