A Message From Long Beach State Athletics:
Dear Beach Community:
I write to share the unfortunate news that Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Andy Fee will be leaving us later this month for a new opportunity with the University of Washington. Andy will serve as the Huskies' Deputy Athletics Director and Chief of Staff. His last day at The Beach is August 26th.
Andy's tenure here has seen multiple national championships as well as a Big West Commissioner's Cup. These successes came as he helped advance the Beach tradition of cultivating our student-athletes' growth, competitive and academic success, and maturity as they continued to be such positive representatives of the university in the community.
We are so appreciative of his many contributions during his more than five years here. COVID, too, brought an unprecedented set of challenges that Andy ably helped us navigate over these many months. As sad as we are to see Andy and Nicole Fee go, we offer both of them our thanks and our very best wishes at Washington. We will announce transition plans and interim leadership for Beach Athletics before Andy's departure.
Jane Close Conoley, Ph.D.
President
LB Nation,
It is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure from Beach Athletics. The past five plus years have been very special, and I want to share my gratitude to each of you for investing and believing in our student-athletes and coaches. Our success in the classroom and on the field of competition would not be possible without you. The past two years have tested our department, yet you came back and provided critical support that resulted in a banner year of championships and a 9th Big West Commissioner's Cup, on top of more academic awards. We have a proud legacy here at the Beach, and you all play an important role.
Beach Athletics is in great position to continue its success, and I know that President Conoley and her executive team are focused on supporting our student-athletes. I am very thankful for President Conoley giving me the opportunity to lead and serve the Beach community. I hope you will continue to invest in the Beach and help provide opportunities that change the lives of so many student-athletes who could not attend LBSU without scholarship support.
The next chapter of our journey will take my wife and I to the University of Washington, and while distance may separate us, we will always remember the fond memories celebrating championships and graduation each year. We have become friends with many of you, and for that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With gratitude,
Andy Fee
