Kristina Ponomareva Wins Long Beach Women’s Amateur With Record-Setting Performance

Coming off of her first season at LBSU, Pononareva recorded back-to-back personal best rounds of 69 and 65 on the way to a dominant win.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sophomore Kristina Ponomareva dominated local competition on the way to winning the Long Beach City Women's Amateur as part of summer competition for the young standout for the Beach.
Ponomareva set a new tournament record with a score of 10-under par over three rounds at the Long Beach Women's Amateur, ultimately winning the tournament by 12 strokes.
The tournament, held in the city since 1928, recognizes the top local women's amateur golfer. Held over three days at three local courses this year, Ponomareva got off to a hot start with a personal best round of 69 at Recreation Park in the opening round.
Her best round came in the second round, as she shattered her personal best with a 65 on Skylinks, and then closed out the tournament at El Dorado Park, holding off Alyson Sor for the win. Ponomareva's 10-under par broke the previous record of 9-under for the tournament, the lowest score in the nearly 100 year history of the event.
