Long Beach State takes Second Place in Big West Championships

Freshman Ian Gilligan finishes in second place with a 9-under par showing

LA QUINTA, Calif.-
The Long Beach State Men's Golf team finished the Big West Tournament with a score of 5-under par, earning them a second place finish at the 2022 Big West Men's Golf Championships. The team had an outstanding showing today in the final round shooting 8-under par, but fell just short of first place.
 
The Beach finished six strokes behind first-place finisher, UC Davis (-11) and 15 strokes ahead of third-place finisher CSUN (+10).
 
Ian Gilligan ended his freshman campaign with a second place finish as he shot 9-under par in the tournament. He fell just four strokes short of first place. Overall, Gilligan fired a 70-68-69.
 
The rest of the Beach had an excellent final round, all finishing in the Top 30. Isaac Rodea fired a 69 in the final round helping him jump 10 spots to finish tied for fourth place.
 
Jack Ainscough finished tied for 15th with a 4-over par for the tournament. Meanwhile, Tyler Schafer climbed into the top 25 after a final round score of 1-under par, including an eagle on the 11th hole. Steven Deutsch finished the tournament at 8-over par.
 
Individually, UC Davis' Thomas Hutchison took home the first-place victory with a 13-under par for the tournament.
