Tyler Schafer Set to Compete in NCAA Stockton Regional

The senior golfer will compete as an individual at the NCAA Stockton Regional which runs from May 16-18
STOCKTON, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Golfer Tyler Schafer is set to compete in the NCAA Stockton Regional as an individual beginning Monday, May 16 in the three-round tournament which will conclude on Wednesday, May 18 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
Schafer, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., was one of 45 individuals chosen to compete alongside the 14 qualifying teams at the Stockton Regional. He is the No. 3 seed in the tournament. which is co-hosted by Pacific and Visit Stockton.
The 14 teams competing in the Stockton Regional are Abilene Christian, Arizona State, BYU, Denver, Houston, Liberty, LSU, Nevada, Oregon, Stanford, UAB, UC Davis, Washington, and Weber State.
Among the individuals, Nate Deziel of North Dakota State is the No. 1 seed, while Nathan Cogswell of Seattle is the No. 2 seed. Jackson Rivera of USC is the No. 4 seed, and Caden Fioroni of UNLV is the No. 5 seed.
Schafer earned his spot at the NCAA Regionals after a solid senior season in which he was the low finisher for Long Beach State in four tournaments this season. He posted four Top 10 finishes on the year, including two of the final three tournaments.
A three-time All-Big West Conference selection, Schafer earned First Team honors last week after concluding the regular season with a 71.38 stroke average. His best finish thus far came at the Desert Intercollegiate where he placed in a tie for third as he shot 69-71-69 for 6-under par.
The low individual player from each of the six Regional sites across the country who is not on an advancing team will qualify for the NCAA National Championship.
