Coleman, Griffin Claim First Big West Weekly Honors

Sebastian Coleman was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week while LeNaya Griffin earned Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a strong opening weekend of the outdoor season, Sebastian Coleman and LeNaya Griffin have earned Big West weekly honors. Coleman was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week while Griffin was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Coleman competed in three throws events over the weekend, finishing with two top five's and a top ten. The junior got off to a phenomenal start on Friday in the men's Hammer, finishing in fourth place with a throw of 62.96m (206' 6"). The mark not only gives him a new lifetime-best, but ranks him eighth in Long Beach State history ahead of teammate Alec Jones and his coach, Cory Loebl.
The Arizona native followed it up with a fifth place finish in men's Shot Put, posting a mark of 15.76m (51' 8.5") which is just shy of his lifetime-best. He was not done yet though with a throw of 54.69m (179' 5") in men's Discus. The new lifetime-best gave him a seventh place finish.
Over on the track, Griffin had a dominant day competing in three events. The highlight came in the relay races as her and her squad swept both the 4x100m and 4x400m races. In the 4x1, she ran the second leg as the team posted a 46.73 in the victory finishing three-tenths of a second in front of second place. In the 4x4, she was the first leg leading the relay team to their second victory of the day with a time of 3:50.46.
Individually, the San Jose native finished third in the 200m Dash with a time of 24.21. The time marks a new lifetime-best and was just shy of being a program top ten mark. While she was third overall, she was first among all NCAA Division I competitors.
