Long Beach State Climbs To Sixth Place Finish In Final Day Of The Gold Rush

Junior Hunter Pate continued her consistent play with a Top 20 finish.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State shot 15-over as a team in the final round of The Gold Rush on Tuesday, rising one spot to finish sixth overall in the team's home tournament.
Junior Hunter Pate had the low score in the tournament for Long Beach State closing out her third round with a 74 to end the tournament 10-over par to finish in 18th place overall.
Sophomore Vanessa Richani had the low score on the day for LBSU, closing out her tournament to finish with a 74 overall, and Hannah Ko continued her strong return with a final day 77, finishing in a tie for 23rd place overall as the second-place finishing among the Beach players.
Angelina Kim carded a 76 on the final day and Kristina Ponomareva finished off the tournament with a score of 80.
Long Beach State moved past Division II powerhouse Cal State San Marcos on Friday and stayed in front of Sam Houston and New Mexico State for a creditable sixth place finish.
No. 14 USC repeated as the team champions, running away with the competition and finishing 1-under as a team for the tournament. The Trojans were led by individual medalist Amari Avery, who won by six strokes with a score of 5-under par for the tournament. No. 15 UCLA came in second place as the other ranked team in the field.
Long Beach State will get right back into action, traveling to Hawai'i to compete in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Oahu starting on Monday, March 7.
