Vernoy Named MPSF Men’s Athlete of the Meet

Senior Charlie Vernoy had a record setting performance at the MPSF Championships.
LONG BEACH, Calif.. - Long Beach State senior Charlie Vernoy was named the MPSF Men's Athlete of the Meet for his record setting performance at the MPSF Indoor Championships this past weekend. The news was announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Vernoy was the 2022 MPSF Weight Throw Champion with a facility record at The Podium, delivering a lifetime-record heave of 21.89 meters (71'-10"). His mark easily won the competition by over seven feet, and ranks 13th in the nation and second in school history.
The Ventura native also finished in second-place in the shot put with a season-best throw of 16.60 meters (54'-5.50"), giving him 18 individual points (second-most on the men's side) towards a runner-up overall team finish.
The fifth-year senior owns four marks in Long Beach State's all-time record books, two in indoor and two in outdoor. He is also a two-time NCAA Preliminary Qualifier, Big West Champion, and three-time All-Big West selection.
Vernoy is slated to compete in the BYU Invitational this weekend as he looks to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
